Search Engine Marketing - A Way to Lay Powerful Structure

Written by sanjana sharma

Thursday, 27 August 2009

Search engine marketing isn't an entirety program. It's an ongoing investment that must be resourced properly. It's not a one-hit, one-phrase paradigm. It's not built on quick wins for trophy phrases. For building a successful Orlando search engine marketing strategy, a monetary value is associated with it and that deserves proper budget allocation. For a better marketing plan for your business to have online presence, plan for an initial trial period, followed by some benchmark testing, where you will be able to carefully measure each result of your online position and campaigns.

To lay the foundation of search engine marketing, any company independent of its industry should be able to reflect it accurately and even spelled out to the last detail. There are four most important steps to bring new visitors to your site and make them your repeat buyers, to bring success to your business by using Orlando internet marketing strategy.

  1. Objective statement: - Giving your objective statement a powerful "punch" which can be summarized as explaining your single most important benefit to a prospect or client. This "punch" could be description of what your company does, using only one or two sentences. A good example to this could be: "Our Company produces powerful e-commerce software helping Fortune 500 companies get more work done in one day, while at the same time saving them hundreds of thousands of dollars every year".

  1. Onliest selling points: - Try to think of a unique fact or feature that truly places your company above all the others. Is your product or service really superior from the ones offered by competition? Is it offered at a lower price than your competitor? Maybe the warranty you are offering lasts longer or the product can be delivered the same day.

  1. Targeting the right market:- One of the best ways to find out on targeting the right market is by looking at the demographics such as age, marital status, sex, job title or geographic region of t he country and this can be done by opting for search, using Google, Yahoo or another search engine, using "demographics" as the main keyword. For example, if you are a real estate broker and if you are trying to sell a house to a young couple just starting out in life, chances are that t heir needs will be substantially different than a middle-aged couple nearing retirement.

  1. A time to answer the call for action: - This is the step that usually the online search marketers forget but it is one of the most critical. Ask yourself the final question: "What do you want your visitors to do on your website?" Finally, during and after you perform a keyword research; you should review your call to actions both times carefully.

A good structure or solid foundation to a well-planned Orlando search engine marketing campaign can make a big difference in the overall online marketing efforts, and will continue to yield long-term benefits for your business.

Getting a car loan with credit challenges

Written by Andrew Rakers

Friday, 28 August 2009

For a lot of people, owning a car is not a luxury it is a necessity. In areas where public transportation is substandard or nonexistent, the only way to get from point A to point B is to drive. If you have less than perfect credit, getting a loan to purchase the vehicle you need is not always easy, and let's face it, how many of us have enough cash to just walk into a dealership and buy a car without financing?
The good news is that there are companies that offer car loans with bad credit. Your local bank and they have turned you down but that does not mean it is impossible to get an auto loan. There are actually a lot of companies that will make these types of loans and in fact there is enough competition between the various companies that you may even be able to find one that offers a decent interest rate.
Car loan interest rates are affected by your credit score, how much down payment you're willing to make, and the length of the loan you are applying for but you shop around a little bit and compare the offers of some of the different lenders you will be able to find the financing you need and make sure you're getting the best possible deal.
Nowadays everyone wants to avail a car for transportation. Few people say it's simple to purchase a new car as they have enough funds to buy it. Still, several people face problems while getting a new car loan due to the high interest rates. In majority of the cases, people don't have sufficient funds to buy either a "used car" or a "new car" by paying "cash" payments.
For younger people, like college students, or for people who have never applied for a loan and don't have any credit cards, getting a loan can be just as difficult as it is for people who have a poor credit history. But, the companies that will finance people with bad credit will also fund no credit car loans.
Whether you have good credit, bad credit, or no credit, with a little bit of research you will be able to find a company to finance your vehicle purchase. And whether you have no credit or bad credit, getting an auto loan and making your payments on time every month can help you establish a good credit history and greatly improve your credit score.

What is Web 2.0

Written by Manish Chauhan

Friday, 28 August 2009

I was recently asked what web 2.0 stood for and I found myself groping for a credible explanation. Snippets of information, I had read all along flashed through my mind, but still, I found myself at complete loss of words. "Does web 2.0 mean anything at all", a thought coupled with the request of my colleagues to find information relating to web 2.0, triggered this inquest. The term has been tossed generously across the world wide web and I decided to start looking for an answer using the same medium.

Wikipedia was my preferred choice and according to them " Web 2.0 is a term describing the trend in the use of World Wide Web technology and web design that aims to enhance creativity, information sharing, and, most notably, collaboration among users. These concepts have led to the development and evolution of web-based communities and hosted services, such as social-networking sites, wikis, blogs, and folksonomies". In my opinion ( and as described by wiki), web 2.0 is more of a trend than technology, and cannot be used to demarcate web 2.0 from web 1.0. I was thinking about it, more on lines of an ongoing evolution of the world wide web rather than a distinct point in time when a technological transition happened. As always, all things evolve over a period of time and its natural and bound to happen. Describing it as a particular phenomena is unjust. I wanted to have a second opinion, as I always do ( to be sure) and found resonance of my thoughts in the words of Tim Berners-Lee, the founder of the Internet. According to him "Web 2.0 is a piece of jargon. Nobody really knows what it means" . He went on to further say that "if web 2.0 for you is blogs and wikis, then that is people to people. But that was what the web was supposed to be all along". The part relating to people is of particular interest to me, as it signals a shift in the perception on world wide web as a medium. Web 2.0 could be treated more as the next gen world wide web that draws its effectiveness from the ability of users to collaborate and share information. .

I wanted to know more about the genesis of the term, to see if the people who invented the term had a different school of thought. According to Tim O' Reilly and Dale Dougherty, accredited for coining the term during a conference brainstorming session in 2004, "Web 2.0 does not have a hard boundary, but rather, a gravitational core. You can visualize Web 2.0 as a set of principles and practices that tie together a veritable solar system of sites that demonstrate some or all of those principles, at a varying distance from that core". In principle, the world wide web is still the same but has added new dimensions to itself, in a sense evolved. As technology advanced, so did the web and the process is never ending. So was their a need to give this evolution a name or was it just a marketing gimmick? Maybe, it wasn't a deliberate attempt to name this trend but just an attempt to show that the web mattered again, after the dot-com bubble burst. Four years since, and the industry still lacks consensus on what web 2.0 is and what it constitutes off. .

In essence, web 2.0 is more of a platform based on the principle that service automatically gets better, the more people use it. This architecture of participation uses web as an intelligent broker connecting the edges (end user). The philosophy being that the users don't just passively imbibe information from the web but actively contribute and supplement information, that is already available. Sites like Youtube, Wikipedia, Facebook, LinkedIn, twitter etc. derive its effectiveness from this inter human connectivity. Bart Decrem, founder of Flock, calls this the "participatory Web" . This has empowered users in ways, we could have only imagined a decade ago. The web is more democratic than ever before, with big players ready to relinquish the user end control. Those who fail to see the human side of this technological revolution, are or destined to be lost in oblivion. The jury is still out on whether web 2.0 is a new concept or was it always present. All we know for sure is that it is happening now and we can see it happen. No one can predict when it would stop or when it started, and would take its own course. .

I am quite amazed that I started my research by using Wikipedia, which now turns out to be a facet of web 2.0. Also, I have not forgotten that I still need to define what web 2.0 stands for, so that next time someone asks me this question, I can save myself from looking like an idiot, by having a ready made answer. Web 2.0 can be described as "world wide web - of the people, for the people, by the people". It might not be a scientifically correct definitions, but I think this is web 2.0 in a nutshell.

Ethernet cable- most economical networking solution

Written by stephen morphey

Thursday, 27 August 2009

An Ethernet cable is what we use for connecting multiple computers physically through a designated cable. Generally a Category 5 cable or category 4 cable is used for directly connecting two computers for data sharing. Local Area Network can also be set up by using multiple Ethernet cables for connecting member nodes.

Ethernet crossover cable is also used to connect multiple computing devices together for high speed data transfer and network sharing. A network switch or hub is required for managing the input and output signals in such Ethernet networks. A common Ethernet cable technology follows IEEE standards supporting all official Ethernet media types.

Wired internet connection is generally supplied to computer terminals through Ethernet cables that are connected to long distance fiber optic network. High speed transfer and greater bandwidth utilization is possible with Ethernet cables due to their structural configuration.

Gigabit is the worldwide leader in Ethernet crossover cable market. Ethernet cables are primarily used in fields where model switches and hubs are essential.

Technically speaking, there are eight pins in a single Ethernet crossover cable plug. Color of individual wire is pre-determined to facilitate easy connection. A Cat 5 cable is generally used for setting up a 1000BASE-T Gigabit Ethernet. Enhanced version of a common Cat 5 cable is also available today as Category 5e. Technical specification for far end crosstalk has been added to Cat 5e cables which make them more versatile and useful than traditional Cat 5 Ethernet cables.

Other major Ethernet cables include Category 4, 6 and 7 cables which are used for specialized networking-related solutions. A common Belkin ten feet Ethernet cable can be brought for about $10. Generally a ten feet Ethernet cable is sufficient to connect to local computers to share data with high speed transmission.

Friday, 28 August 2009

Hard drive recovery is an increasingly needed service as we are more reliant on hard drive and other data storage services. The problems that happen with hard disks can be classified into two types:

Logical problems: These problems occur when the file system has issues. The hard drive is fine however the files cannot be accessed, have disappeared or are corrupt. The cause for logical problems can be files deleted accidentally or intentionally, virus attack or the hard drive could be reformatted in error or poor software.

Physical problems: The hard drive can be defective if it isn't spinning, there are problems reading the drive, demagnetisation, has bad blocks or making noises. This can be caused by a manufacturing defect, mechanical impact or voltage oscillations. Data recovery is possible but as the drive has physical problems it will normally be binned after data recovery.

Hard Drive recovery can be classified in five types:

Type 0: There is a type 0 for cases where it is data recovery however a technician could solve the problem. For example Windows doesn't boot. Here the technician would simply put the hard drive in another machine, copy the data and then reinstall the system. This means there is a back up of important data should the hard drive need to be reformatted.

Type 1: A type 1 problem would be classified as a simple data recovery issue were no physical damage is present. Examples include hacker or virus attack, lost partition or deleted files. This type is for lost data but data that hasn't yet been overwritten therefore the data is still on the hard drive and there is a high possibility of recovering the data.

Type 2: Problems would be things like having partial overwritten data at the important points of the disk because programs have been reinstalled or poor recovery tools have been used and have probably caused more damage than good. Other operating systems that are used make data recovery harder so they would be in this group too, examples are Novell and Linux.

Type 3: These are the most serious cases which would likely have physical problems like suffering from a serious crash. There may be a reason sometimes like a mechanical chock or voltage oscillations but the cause could also be a defective manufacture.

Type 4: The last hard drive recovery type is reserved when there is no solution to the hard drive issue. Most cases here would be suffering from physical problems were the drives have been damaged beyond recovery like a severely crashed surface. No one will be able to recover the information. This type is also were information has been lost but has been completely overwritten.

If you have important information to recover seek professional advice, internet tools can cause more damage and won't be tailored to the situation.

Ten Reasons to Use Computer Rentals

Written by Jonathan Powers

Thursday, 27 August 2009

  1. Chaos: when your home or office computer breaks, and you need a computer while your own machine is being repaired, computer rentals can step in and fill the gap. No need to miss deadlines or go without communicating with family and friends.
  2. Fire, flood or other disasters: we all like to think that these things never happen, but a fire or flood can destroy a business, requiring a quick move, either temporary or permanent, to a new location. Insurance money is unlikely to come in quickly, so computer rentals can supply you with everything you need to get your new office up and running until you have the cash flow to buy or lease your equipment.
  3. Business travel: although staff members who regularly travel will have laptops of their own, occasionally other staff members will need to travel. Instead of ensuring everyone has a laptop, just in case they need to travel, computer rentals can provide the right equipment on a temporary basis.
  4. Family vacations: why not rent a tablet or laptop computer when going on family vacation. Instead of enduring hours of your kids arguing in the car or asking when you are going to arrive, a laptop can provide endless hours of entertainment with music, videos, and games. Computer rentals are so inexpensive that you can consider getting one for each child, so that they can each do their own thing.
  5. Temporary employees: on occasion a business hires one or many temporary employees to do a set job. Instead of buying or leasing computer equipment, a rental agreement can fill the technology need without long term agreements or a huge outlay in cash.
  6. Training: large corporations often do large scale training sessions, bringing in employees from many locations for a week or less. Instead of buying, leasing, or transporting computers from many locations, it is cheaper to rent. Another advantage to computer rentals is that the rental company will set up and take down all of the equipment, saving your IT department the time and money.
  7. Tradeshows: most companies only attend a few tradeshows a year, so instead of buying or leasing equipment that is used only for a few days, then incurring the costs of storing, shipping, and maintaining this equipment, many companies are now choosing to rent.
  8. Marketing events: making a big splash is the primary goal with large scale marketing events. Instead of buying the latest and greatest equipment to showcase your products for a day or two, consider renting. The money you saved can be invested elsewhere.
  9. Adding on peripherals: occasionally a small office will temporarily need a piece of equipment that they normally do not use, like a scanner. Instead of buying a peripheral that is only needed for a day or two, computer rentals can provide what you need.
  10. Testing out the newest computer equipment: who doesn't like to play with the newest technology? Instead of buying ever new piece of computer equipment that tickles your fancy, try renting instead. You can try it out for a few days or weeks, decide if you like it enough to make a big purchase, and return it without having made a huge dent in your finances.

Networking Tips for a Great Job

Written by Maha Baig

Thursday, 27 August 2009

An umpteen number of individuals erroneously suppose that professional life starts with a job search and quickly obtaining employment. In truth our professional lives commence in the last few years of school and in spite of the fact that we do not necessarily have to select a career path, who we socialize wit, our internships and other activities all play a critical part in influencing the ease with which we can obtain a job after graduation and in coming years. Networking is an integral component in any job search or career success and has to be refined over the years using regularity, social skills and organization. Here are some of the general techniques of networking right through your life as a professional and student.

A large number of students intern in their final few years at school and all through their university lives. Internships empower you to research various job industries and help accustom you with the principal workings of different companies. It is also a wonderful chance to cultivate contacts with associates interning with you and your manager. Do not forget that your manager have been through the systems and can give vital advice and help you search for and land jobs in the future. Your boss may be an assistant today but they could be managing their own division tomorrow. Make certain you maintain contact.

Summer jobs have relatively fewer working hours and so, are generally manageable during vacations. Clubs and groups enable you to mix and cultivate contacts all through the year, as requires less of your time. Enter numerous clubs and groups and offer to help for occasions patronized by corporations you can foresee yourself working for. Try to handle tasks that require reliability and exhibit an interest, conversing and circulating with corporate executives. Don't forget to get their contact details.

Your relatives, contacts and their family and contacts are all a part of your social network and can facilitate your career in numerous ways. Don't pass up gatherings where grown up, employed people are expected to attend. Use it as a possibility to consult on career choices, special causes and other events that concern you.

Your associates and acquaintances from school and college and your teachers and advisers are all people you want to keep in touch with all through your life. Networking has become convenient with large social network sites that let you stay in touch with big groups of people conveniently and efficiently. If you're ever without a job or seeking new job openings your employed alumni can facilitate give you useful suggestions and exclusive channels and maybe even land an interview for you. Teachers and advisers are quite often closely connected with organizations and can also endorse you for vacant positions.

Employment related events are a common occurrence on and off campus and are good occasions to know professionals from a whole bunch of fields and organizations. Go to stalls that appeal to you, dig up information, chat with the HR representatives there and obtain their contact details. Incorporate them in your email list and send them regular updates on your life and undertakings. One of these contacts might recollect your name on a job application and offer you an interview in the years ahead.

Bear in mind that your frequency of correspondence will fluctuate for different groups. Your social connections, and school and college pals are easier to stay in touch with and you have a tendency to write and even call more repeatedly. With your boss, teachers, advisers and colleagues your communication should be less frequent and more formal. The objective is to keep the relationship current and to illustrate that you're a very passionate, enterprising and keen personality. Your significant friend count on a social networking site can be an impressive feat.

Networking will in no way work if you think of it as an chance to exploit individuals for your own gain. You have to be sincere and provide assistance whenever called for. And don't be frightened to ask for someone's help either just because you presume someone might confuse your purpose. Your pains may not always be acknowledged but you need to rise above that and be the bigger person. Always bear in mind that networking is an chance not only to facilitate your career but also most notably, go on to make some really first-class associates and relationships along the way.

Data Recovery Tips- How to Retrieve Lost Data?

Written by Jacob Luis

Thursday, 27 August 2009

Data can get lost due to several reasons, which include human errors, viruses, operating system corruption, hard disk physical failure and disk formatting. In most of such cases, data loss translate into adversities for the user, generally when it loses important files and documents. Lost data is completely recoverable if you follow correct procedures and right techniques. Data Recovery Tools help retrieving all lost files, folders, partitions and other lost data.

Recovery procedure depends on whether data loss has occurred due to physical or non-physical/logical crash. In the former case, the disk doesn't remain physically intact and hence cannot be recognized or operated by system. However, in the latter case, disk doesn't suffer any physical harm, but instead loses data because of software reasons. Following are some basic tips that you need to follow while data loss:

Physical Crash

  • Do not try to run the system after crash
  • Avoid using any software utility in an attempt of recovering data
  • A crashed hard drive might catch more damages if is subjected to extreme temperature, shocks and vibrations etc. Avoid them
  • Do not attempt to open the hard drive as airborne particles might damage it further
  • If you observe clicking and grinding noises emanating from hard drive, turn off the computer immediately
  • The best remedy to recover data is to stop working with the system, place it safely in anti-static and anti-shock packing and consult a reputed data recovery company for further assistance

Non-physical/logical crash

  • Use your computer and media as little as possible until you recover the data. More activities on the media might result into data overwriting. For best results, do not use the system anymore
  • Try to make more and more free space available on disk containing your lost files. This helps reducing odds of data overwriting
  • Avoid the use of disk defragmentation and volume repair like utilities
  • Do not use the same disk to install data recovery software. Use a slave or some other removable media for the same and specify a safe location to restore the lost data
  • Look for a reliable, safe and comprehensive data recovery tools to recover data logically

Stellar Information Systems Limitedis the leading company that provides industry's best data recovery applications and services. The company provides fast and safe scanning recovery software for Windows, UNIX, Linux, Novell and Macintosh operating systems. It also provides excellent disk recovery service through experienced technicians and Class 100 Clean Rooms availability.

Google Adsense tips and tricks to make more money

* Blend your ads to your website layout
This could be considered as one the most important things which is often overlooked. Instead of using predefined colors provided by Google, try changing colors of your ads to match the website layout. For example, if your website uses white background with green text, make sure you use the same colors for your ads.

* Do not display a border
While you can’t get rid of the border around your ad, you can make it invisible by changing the border color to that of the background. Researches have shown that ads without a visible border generate much higher clicks than those with one.

* Do not place your ads in normal spots
Internet users have become accustomed to the normal ad spots (eg: a Leaderboard above your header, a Skyscrapper outside the content) and hence, any ads placed in those normal spots will often be ignored.

* Choose the right ad formats
There are a few ad formats which perform better than others. Some of the recommended ad formats are Wide Skyscrapper, Medium Rectangle and Horizontal Ads Links. However, these ad formats may not necessarily work for everyone, so choose the ones that work for you.

* Good layout design
Although a good layout design does not necessarily increase your Adsense revenue, it is important for the first impression and also for the professionalism.

* Content is the king
The fact that Google Adsense is contextual advertising implies that the ads being generated are often relevant to the website content. That simply means you will not get any relevant ads if the content does not focus on a certain topic or the content is not text based. For example, if your page does not have any copy/text but an image, it’s unlikely to get relevant ads.

* Pick a high paying topic
It took me a while to find out that some keywords are being paid more than others. While Google does not tell you how much advertisers are paying for their keywords, it is pretty easy to guess. For example, ads about credit cards, home loans and insurance are being paid more than those ads about free blogging tool, yellow pages, etc. It is also recommended to pick a Niche topic and provide a narrow focus than to pick a general topic.

* Update your website frequently
Updating your website frequently enables you to get more visitors checking out your website which increases your page impression and the probability of ad clicks.

* Write quality content
Not everyone possesses a natural talent in writing, and I can say for sure that I don’t. However, if you offer something useful, interesting, and put your heart into writing, your readers will enjoy what you have to say. And they will be coming back for more.

* A good organizer is the winner
With Google Adsense, you can organize your ads and have a clear idea about their performance by using Channels. This way, if a particular ad is not performing well, you could always replace it with a difference one. There are quite a few things you could do with Channels and this is just one of them.

* Monitor your statistics
Checking both your website and Adsense statistics enables you to get better ideas about your audiences. From your website statistics, you can find out which pages are being viewed the most, where most of your traffics come from, what the peak day of the week is, etc. Similarly, Adsense statistics will tell you which ad formats are being clicked the most, how many page impressions you receive, how much you are making each day/week/month, etc. You can then make improvements based on these figures to maximize the performance.

* Link Building
No matter how good your website is and how relevant your Adsense ads are, without a decent amount of traffics, you will only be making a small amount of revenue, if any. It is not easy to achieve a decent amount of traffics, but it is not impossible. Some of the most common ways to gain traffics to your website include Link exchange, Directory listing, participating in online communities and making use of social bookmaking systems.

* Search Engine Optimization
Search Engine Optimization (SEO) is one of the most successful and recommended methods of gaining traffics to your website and it is more than just a buzz word. Optimizing your websites for search engines increases your website visibility and ranking, which in turn generates significant amounts of targeted and relevant traffics to your website. Combined, search sites reach more than 130 million Americans or approximately 85 percent of all Internet users each month, ranking Search/Navigation among the most popular categories on the Web.

* A little maintenance goes a long way
Many people tend to overlook the maintenance part of the website. In this case, rather than sticking to the same ad formats, or the same positioning of the ads, try experiment with different formats and positioning. If they do not work, you could always revert the changes. But if they do, that’s a bonus for you.

* Do not click on your own ads
Honesty is the best policy. Be honest with yourself, and do not try to increase your Adsense revenue by clicking on your own ads. Google is really strict when it comes to fraud clicking, and before you knew it, your account could be banned and you could be owing some money to the advertisers.

* When in doubt, ask
If you have some questions in mind, or are unclear about certain stuffs, don’t hesitate to ask the Google Adsense Help Team. Before asking them, though, you could do them a favor by checking out their Frequently Asked Questions and Answers page.

* I hope you will find the above tips and tricks useful in improving your website to increase your Adsense revenue. While it is always good to earn some cash from your website, do not let it rule you or your website. And remember that no money is easy money and it takes a considerable amount of time, effort and dedication before one could see a marked improvement in his Adsense revenue.

How to Enable and Configure Remote Access in Windown Server2003

.1 Overview of remote access

By configuring Routing and Remote Access to act as a remote access server, you can connect remote or mobile workers to organization networks. Remote users can work as if their computers are physically connected to the network.
Users run remote access software and initiate a connection to the remote access server. The remote access server, which is a server running Routing and Remote Access, authenticates users and services sessions until terminated by the user or network administrator. All services typically available to a LAN-connected user (including file and print sharing, Web server access, and messaging) are enabled by means of the remote access connection.
A server running Routing and Remote Access provides two different types of remote access connectivity:
  1. Dial-up networking
Dial-up networking is when a remote access client makes a nonpermanent, dial-up connection to a physical port on a remote access server by using the service of a telecommunications provider such as analog phone, ISDN, or X.25. The best example of dial-up networking is that of a dial-up networking client who dials the phone number of one of the ports of a remote access server.
Dial-up networking over an analog phone or ISDN is a direct physical connection between the dial-up networking client and the dial-up networking server. You can encrypt data sent over the connection, but it is not required.
  1. Virtual private networking
Virtual private networking is the creation of secured, point-to-point connections across a private network or a public network such as the Internet. A virtual private networking client uses special TCP/IP-based protocols called tunneling protocols to make a virtual call to a virtual port on a virtual private networking server. The best example of virtual private networking is that of a virtual private networking client who makes a virtual private network connection to a remote access server that is connected to the Internet. The remote access server answers the virtual call, authenticates the caller, and transfers data between the virtual private networking client and the corporate network.
In contrast to dial-up networking, virtual private networking is always a logical, indirect connection between the virtual private networking client and the virtual private networking server over a public network such as the Internet. To ensure privacy, you must encrypt data sent over the connection.

5.1.1 Exercise 1: Enabling Routing and Remote Access for Dialup and VPN Connections

1. Click Start, select Run, type rrasmgmt.msc and click OK.
2. Right click the server and select Configure and Enable Routing and Remote Access.
3. On the Welcome to the  Routing and Remote Access setup Wizard page click Next.
4. On the Configuration page select Remote Access(dial-up or VPN) and click Next.
5. On the Remote Access page select VPN and Dial-up and click Next.
6. On the IP Address Assignment page select
Automatically :   Select this option if you are using a DHCP server to assign   addresses automatically to your clients.
From a specified range of addresses : Use this option if you want your remote access servers to assign addresses automatically.
and click Next.
7. On the Address Range Assignment page five the range of addresses from which to assign addresses to     your clients and click Next.
8. On the Managing Multiple Remote Access Servers select No, use Routing and Remote Access to authenticate connection attempts and click Next.
9. On the next page click Finish.

5.2 Configuring Ports

5.2.1 Point-to-Point Tunneling Protocol

Point-to-Point Tunneling Protocol (PPTP) is a tunneling protocol first supported in Windows NT 4.0 and Windows 98. PPTP is an extension of Point-to-Point Protocol (PPP) and leverages the authentication, compression, and encryption mechanisms of PPP. Client support for PPTP is built-in to the Windows XP remote access client.
VPN server support for PPTP is built in to members of the Windows Server 2003 family. PPTP is installed with the TCP/IP protocol. Depending on your choices when running the Routing and Remote Access Server Setup Wizard, PPTP is configured for five or 128 PPTP ports.

5.2.2 Layer Two Tunneling Protocol

Layer Two Tunneling Protocol (L2TP) is an RFC-based tunneling protocol that is an industry standard and was first supported in the Windows 2000 client and server operating systems. L2TP relies on Internet Protocol security (IPSec) for encryption services. Both L2TP and IPSec must be supported by both the VPN client and the VPN server. Client support for L2TP is built-in to the Windows XP remote access client, and VPN server support for L2TP is built in to members of the Windows Server 2003 family.
L2TP is installed with the TCP/IP protocol. Depending on your choices when running the Routing and Remote Access Server Setup Wizard, L2TP is configured for five or 128 L2TP ports.

5.2.3 Exercise 2: Configuring Ports

1. Open Routing and Remote Access.
2. Right click the Ports node and select Properties.
3. Select the type of port you want to configure PPTP or L2TP and click Configure.
4. On Configure Device page you can specify the phone number, enable demand dial and define the maximum number of PPTP or L2TP ports.

5.2.4 Exercise 3: To Disable Remote Access server.

1. Open Routing and Remote Access
2. Right click the server and select Properties.
3. On the Properties sheet uncheck the Remote access server option.

5. 3 Dial-in Properties of a user account

The dial-in properties for a user account are:
  • Remote Access Permission (Dial-in or VPN)
You can use this property to set remote access permission to be explicitly allowed, denied, or determined through remote access policies. In all cases, remote access policies are used to authorize the connection attempt. If access is explicitly allowed, remote access policy conditions, user account properties, or profile properties can still deny the connection attempt. The Control access through Remote Access Policy option is only available on user accounts in a Windows 2000 native domain, a Windows Server 2003 domain, or for local accounts on stand-alone servers running Windows 2000, Windows Server 2003
·         By default, the Administrator and Guest accounts on a stand-alone server or in a Windows 2000 native domain are set to Control access through Remote Access Policy. In a Windows 2000 mixed domain, they are set to Deny access. New accounts that are created on a stand-alone server or in a Windows 2000 native domain are set to Control access through Remote Access Policy. New accounts that are created in a Windows 2000 mixed domain are set to Deny access.
  • Verify Caller ID
If this property is enabled, the server verifies the caller's phone number. If the caller's phone number does not match the configured phone number, the connection attempt is denied. Caller ID must be supported by the caller, the phone system between the caller and the remote access server, and the remote access server
  • Callback Options
If this property is enabled, the server calls the caller back during the connection process. The phone number that is used by the server is set by either the caller or the network administrator.
  • Assign a Static IP Address
You can use this property to assign a specific IP address to a user when a connection is made.

5.3.1 Exercise 4: Configuring access permission for a DOMAIN user

1. Click Start, select Run type dsa.msc  and click OK.
2. Take the properties of the user whom you want to give dial in permissions and select the Dial-in tab.
3. Under Remote Access permission you can either Allow or Deny access or control access through remote access policy.
NOTE: Last option is available only when your domain is running under the Windows 2000 Native mode or Windows Server 2003 mode.

5.3.2 Exercise 5: Configuring Caller ID and Callback options

1.  Click Start, select Run type dsa.msc  and click OK.
2. Take the properties of the user whom you want to give dial in permissions and select the Dial-in tab.
3.  To enable caller ID place a check against Verify Caller ID and specify the number you want the caller to dial in from.
4.  To enable Callback select the Always Callback to option and give e number you want the remote access server to dial back to.

5.4 Client Configuration
